There was joy at Maseno University as West fm reporter and presenter Rosemary Wachiye (Rozzie) graduated at a colorful ceremony held at the institution.
Rozzie, as she is popularly referred to by her fans, was all smiles as she graduated among other 79 media and Communication students.
She is the lead presenter for the station in Webuye region, in Bungoma County and also co-hosts the Christian show every Sunday from 5am to 10am with bro. Mash. She has also hosted Kata Jasho, Kesha na West Fm apart from undertaking other duties for the station.
In a live interview on radio from Maseno, she exuded confidence that she has got all it takes to put the station on the international map.
“Niko sasa tayari kufanya kazi na bidii sana – I am ready to work even harder-,” she told Dj. Walter on Za Kisasa.
The board of directors, staff, and colleagues also wished her the best in her endeavors especially now that she has graduated.
“In God I trust, that this day is going to be magnificent of all. My graduation day is finally here...Thanks friends and family for making this day worth looking forward to...God bless u!,” she said on her official facebook page.
During the ceremony, the government through the ministry of Higher Education has been told to liaise with the Ministry of Finance, to allocate more funds to higher institutions of learning for purposes of research.
Speaking during the 11th graduation ceremony of the Maseno University Friday, the chancellor of the institution Prof. Florida Karani, and said research was key in attaining the vision 2030 in terms of innovation and the introduction of new programs.
She also urged university dons to invest more time and money in ensuring they deliver quality programmes that compete and address the myriad needs of the nation.
More than 1452 graduands were conferred with doctorate, masters, post graduate, bachelors, and certificates.
Among them was the speaker of the National Assemby Kennth Marende who was honored with the Honoury Degree of Degree of Doctor of Letters Honoris Causa of Maseno University for his zeal in advocating for the rule of law, advocate of constitutionalism and good governance.

“We find in honorable Marende a true patriot, a consistent advocate for constitutionalism, a stickler for playing by the rule of law, and a man of integrity and honour. His contributions have immensely benefited the improvement of good governance, peace building, reconciliation and political stability in Kenya…in recognition of his qualities, ideals and achievements, Maseno University is honoured to confer on honorable Kenneth Otiato Marende, the degree of Doctor of Letters (Honoris Causa) of Maseno university, and to welcome him warmly to the distinguished ranks of its alumni,” said the Vice Chancellor Prof. Dominic Makawati.
Prof Makawati said that his Honoury was justified because the National Assembly speaker played a great role in restoring peace and stability in the nation after the disputed 2007 presidential election, of which he said:
“These have enabled us identify a few individuals who have demonstrated exceptional courage, visionary and non partisan leadership that has kept the country on the course of the reform agenda. One such leader is the honourable Kenneth Otiato Marende, the speaker of the National Assembly of the republic of Kenya, whose rulings now commonly referred as “Solomonic” have demonstrated outstanding leadership.

“In making these heroic and wise rulings, Marende did not ask us to respect him: He earned our respect. By simply providing solutions in moments of great challenge, he has demonstrated the way leaders should handle crisis of national importance,” added Prof. Makawati.
In his acceptance, Marende said “It is my decision that I dedicate this award to the people of Kenya. May the award endure to all honourable Kenyans of good will, who expect and to work for a peaceful prosperous Kenya.”
